New in Autodesk Revit 2014 Installation

Autodesk Revit 2014 offers the following installation improvements:

Installation

• Windows® 8 now supported. The software now supports the Microsoft® Windows® 8 operating system, as well as Windows® 7.
• Windows® XP support discontinued. The software no longer supports the Windows® XP operating system.
• Multi-lingual user interface (MUI). After installing the software on a target computer, you can install additional language packs. With language packs, the user can choose from among the installed languages when starting the software. Relevant content packs (based on region and language) and localized offline help are included with language packs.
• Content pack status. In previous releases, the installation seemed to stall while it downloaded content. With the new release, a Content Pack Status progress meter provides visual confirmation that the installation is still active.
• Stand-alone installation for Revit Server. On target computers for Revit Server Hosts and Accelerators, you can now use a stand-alone installer that requires less disk space. You do not need to use the full Revit installation program on those systems.

  (Revit LT does not support Revit Server.)

• Improved Help. Based on your WikiHelp comments and suggestions, the Revit User Assistance team has improved the online Help to better explain Revit-specific information regarding installation and deployment. Please continue to provide us with feedback.
• Streamlined hotfix delivery. Autodesk now has a hotfix delivery method that uses a true installation. If Autodesk needs to release a hotfix, it will be issued as an MSI or EXE file.

Licensing

Deployments

(Revit LT does not support deployments.)

• Language packs: When creating a deployment, you can now specify language packs to install as part of the deployment. Use the Include Additional Software option when configuring the deployment.
• Default folder: The name of the default folder for deployments has changed from AdminImage to Img. This change helps to reduce the impact of the character limit for deployment paths.
• Inifile.xml:If you used inifile.xml in deployments for earlier releases of Revit, you can continue to use that file to customize Revit 2014 deployments. You no longer need to place copies of the file in multiple locations. After creating a 2014 deployment, place your version of inifile.xml in the following location (or the location similar to this; the product code [RVT2014] may differ for your deployment):

  <Install_Image_Location>\RVT2014\x64\RVT2014\Program Files\Autodesk\Root\Setup\Cache\sfCache\inifile.xml

  Note: Use of inifile.xml requires advanced knowledge and understanding of the Revit installation and deployment process. Use of inifile.xml is not required for new Revit 2014 deployments.
