Create a Model

When creating a model, you can choose to use a template or default settings as a starting point.

To create a model using a template

  1. On the Home page, under Models, click New.

    As an alternative, from the ribbon, click File tabNew (Project).

  2. In the New Project dialog, under Template file, do one of the following:
    • Select a template from the list.
    • Click Browse, navigate to the desired template (an RTE file), and click Open.

      Revit provides several templates, which reside in the Templates folder in the following location:

      • %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Autodesk\RVT 2019

      As an alternative, your BIM manager may have set up templates for you to choose from.

  3. For Create new, click Project.
  4. Click OK.
  5. The software creates a new model, using the selected template as a starting point.

To create a model using default settings (no template)

  1. On the Home page, under Models, click New.

    As an alternative, from the ribbon, click File tabNew (Project).

  2. In the New Project dialog, under Template file, select None.
  3. For Create new, click Project.
  4. Click OK.
  5. In the Undefined System of Measurement dialog, select Imperial or Metric.
  6. The software creates a new model, using default settings as a starting point.
