Use a Custom Revit.ini File

If you receive a customized version of the Revit.ini file to use with your installation of the software, you can implement it as follows.

Note: Before following this procedure, read About the Revit.ini File for Installation.
  1. Install the Revit software on the computer.
  2. If you have not yet started Revit on the computer, do the following:
    1. Make a backup copy of the Revit.ini file that currently resides in the UserDataCache folder (C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\<product and release>\UserDataCache).
    2. Copy the custom Revit.ini file to the UserDataCache folder.
    3. Start Revit.

When you start the software, UserDataCache\Revit.ini is copied to your user profile folder.

  3. If you have already started Revit on the computer, do the following:
    1. Exit Revit.
    2. Copy the custom Revit.ini file to your user profile folder (C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Revit\<product name and release>).
    3. Start Revit.

When you start the software, the version of Revit.ini that is stored in your user profile folder is used to define your Revit settings.
