Workshared Model Won't Synchronize

After making changes in a Revit local file, you cannot save or synchronize.

Issue: Families in the model may be corrupt preventing the local model from synchronizing with the central model.

Solution: To find the corrupt family, do the following:

  1. Ensure everyone is updated to the latest build.
  2. Open the project with the Audit check box selected.
    • If the model will not open with the audit option, perform the steps in Cannot Open a Model Using Audit. When you are able to audit the model, proceed with the next step.
  3. Open the latest journal file, and look for lines similar to the following:
    • ' 3:< [Family Name], LoadedId = [Element#], GUID = 6ec8b336-60db-4ece-84d9-f9ff6da57711, refers to a NON_EXISTENT_CONTENT_DOC. Please reload!
  4. For any families identified in the journal file, reload the associated families from a backup library or a family library.
Note: When reloading families, use the Load Family command, or open the family and use Load into Project. Avoid right-clicking on the family in the Project Browser and selecting Reload.

If there are a large number of families to re-load you could use the following steps to more quickly reload them:

  1. Find uncorrupt copies of the affected files (these could be from a family library or from a different project file). (To save families from a project use the Save As -> Library -> Family.)
  2. Create a separate folder to place the families that need to be reloaded.
  3. Place a copy of the families that need to be reloaded into the folder.
  4. Open the Revit model.
  5. Drag all of the families from the folder into the project window.
  6. When prompted to overwrite the first family, check the box "Do this for all loading families". (If prompted regarding overwriting again, check this box again.)
  7. If you encounter errors/warnings when reloading the families do the following:
    1. Identify the particular families that are leading to an error/warning.

The message may appear immediately after you click the Overwrite option for the family, or it may appear after reloading a few families of the same category.
    2. Reload the families that do not lead to an error/warning.
    3. For each family that show an error/warning, reload it as follows: In the Project Browser, right-click on the family, and click Reload. Select the family file and click OK.

If this doesn't work, open the Family Editor, and use the Load into Project command.
